Loek has had an active practice for years, but he was still missing a professional website. He asked us to design a bilingual site with suitable images and photography. In his online representation, he wanted to stay true to himself and his method so that it would resonate with the right people.

Loek envisioned a design that was minimalistic yet rich in depth. Calm yet powerful, and full of contrast. The entire website – including text and imagery – had to appeal not only to the cognition but also to the imagination. These requests might appear contradictory but we love a good challenge! We also recognized that these contradictions are crucial parts of his work and therefore important to convey.
For the imagery of the website, we created paper artworks. While paper may be somewhat fragile as a material, it also offers beautiful layering with significant depth and contrast. It is precisely because of those layers that paper becomes strong.
For Loek's website, we embraced all the contradictions, which served as the guiding principle for our choices in color and layout. There is literally a vertical dividing line in the lay-out that separates the cognitive from the visual aspects. The dark from the light. Yet, it remains a cohesive whole.
